*Throw out; **Tie was broken by lowest score in a race.

Saturday afternoon April 9th was another great day to race Flying Scot class boats south end of the Mulberry Cove for the second race of the four race one-design series. Race started at noon with light 4-6 knot shifting winds out of the northwest. Sailing on a windward-leeward course, three boats were DSQ’d for sailing through the closed start-finish line. As the afternoon progressed, the winds increased and clocked, necessitating changing the course for the second race, and again for the third race, both of which were sailed on a triangle-windward-leeward course. Competition was close making for tight mark roundings with four to six boats overlapped. Winds continued to clock to the northeast and increased to 10-12 knots in the fourth race; and 12-15 knots in the fifth race, making for some exciting racing.  Most often boats will start on a starboard tack, as the onus of keeping clear falls on a port tack boat.  The fourth race, again a triangle-windward-leeward course, with a square starting line, saw several boats starting on port tack, one boat successfully sailing the entire fleet for the best start.  Who says “sailing isn’t a spectator sport”?  For the fifth race, the committee changed back to a windward-leeward course at the request of the competitors; this was a great sailing day, but hard work for weekend sailors!
